Warner has disclosed that The Dark Knight’s Blu-Ray copies managed to sell a remarkable 600,000 copies on the first day of its release. This stacks up to about 30% of the total DVD sales for the Dark Knight – which is a momentous feat by any measure. The first week sales for Blu-Ray copies of the Dark Knight stands at 1.7m and counting.

With plenty of URL shortening services at large across the web, Krunchd joins the ranks. The service lets you shorten multiple URLs, but that isn’t something different from the countless may services. What makes it different is it lets a user to enter a URL of their choice, up to 12 character. Upon clicking the Krunchd link, users are directed to the list of URLs that have been shortened. But it’s not important to enter a name of your choice as it can also generate a random name of just two characters. Nice and easy and pretty effective.

image thumb418 LiveDrive crashes the Online Storage Party with Unlimited Storage Option LiveDrive is the latest entrant into the online storage world. The service offers free and unlimited online storage. Users can upload unlimited number of files and there is no explicit limit on the amount of each file. LiveDrive also has a desktop client for Windows XP/Vista that allows users to create a virtual drive on their computer corresponding to the network storage. Apparently the Mac client is also in works. LiveDrive is certainly the most ambitious online storage startup.

As has been the case lately, twitter was the first web outlet to report the Denver plane crash as people from inside the plane started twitting about it while they were experiencing it live. Twitter might be the tool to get to the info in real time and relatively quickly, but the role of traditional media outlets would not be wiped out completely – yes it definitely would morph and change with time.

Fox Interactive Media has decided to trim down on expenses by cutting costs and benefits instead of firing employees, according to an internal memo written by Fox Interactive Chief Peter Levinsohn and obtained by TechCrunch. One of the major initiative to be axed would be the free lunch program for all employees. Levinsohn has also highlighted the success  of MySpace, Photobucket and other media properties of FIM and have bragged that the company has not imposed an hiring freeze just yet.

Rumors have started to surface that Microsoft is preparing for large scale lay offs due to declining revenues in the face of worsening economic conditions around the globe. The rumors first surfaced on Mini Microsoft, a blog written by a Microsoft insider. According to Mini Microsoft some layoffs are already under way in specific groups. In addition to this, Mini Microsoft is hinting that the layoffs would be carried out before 15th Jan, which is one week prior to the announcement of FY09Q2 quarterly results, as the company wants to complete the cuts before announcing the quarterly results.

Microsoft has decided to license Windows XP for four more months. Previously Microsoft planned to cut off licenses for Windows XP by 31st January 2009, but now that date has been extended to 30th May 2009. Microsoft has already extended XP licensing for Netbooks and other low-cost laptops until 2010. But this is not the first time that Microsoft is forced to extend lifeline to XP, according to BBC:

Youtube has hit a wall while re-negotiating the licensing deal, that expires in March 2009, to host Warner videos on the site. As a result of this Warner has decided to pull its videos from Youtube. Apparently Warner wants more bucks in return for the music videos than Youtube is willing to pay, specially because Youtube itself isnt making much from the videos on the site.
