graphon thumb GraphOn Sues Google for Patent Infringement GraphOn, a software maker based in Santa Cruz, California, has filed a law suit against Google, alleging that Google’s Base, AdWords, Blogger, Sites and Youtube services violate GraphOn’s patents.

The patents in question were acquired by GraphOn as a result of its acquisition of Network Engineering Software, which was privately held software company. The acquisition was completed in 2005. GraphOn’s law suit has been filed in United States District Court in the Eastern District of Texas.

ioc youtube thumb ‘International Olympic Committee’ reconsiders its decision of copyright violation claim on YouTube

The International Olympic Committee has withdrawn its Copyright infringement claim on YouTube regarding its videos showing Tibetan protests. According to Electronic Frontier Foundation’s attorney, Corynne McSherry, the IOC, earlier this week demanded that the video sharing site removed the video portraying protests for a free Tibet. The video was posted under the heading of “Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony“.

The video showed world wide protests in favour of Tibet. It also contained olympic rings footage but it wasn’t more than twice.

Last time we had reported that Italy has blocked The Pirate Bay. Though the company had decided to fight against this irrational point, it was expected that IFIP will gradually ruin world’s largest BitTorrent’s image. But, instead of decrease in the traffic from Italy, the ‘bay has noticed a drastic increase in its traffic.

According to Alexa, the site has jumped almost 10 places this week which is quiet noticeable. Its not been long when the pirate bay’s co-founder protest against the attempted block and slapped Italy by changing its IP and domain name. Furthermore, Peter Sunder, co-founder of the great BitTorrent said that they are used to these types of access blocking actions from ‘fascist countries’. Countries like Italy cannot afford the freedom of speech and this kind of info greatly harm their (dictator’s) ego.

RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has been involved in a number of cases in the U.S. related to file sharing. One of the most famous cases of RIAA was against Jammie Thomas. The case created a lot of hype due to the volume of fines. The news was covered on a national scale. What people may not know is that there are a lot of cases which were not won by RIAA. The only reason behind it is that those cases were not given that much coverage; you can call it RIAA’s strong lobby with the media or ignorance on media’s part.
