Mark Rizzn Hopkins argues that the Internet is built on two cornerstones: sex and hate. According to Mark "You’ll have griefers anywhere there’s a group of people, and if there’s anywhere that creativity’s encouraged, folks will use that creativity to come up with new ways to talk about, view, or engage in virtual sex."

I however would disagree with it, I think that not just the Internet, our entire society is built on two cornerstones, sex and greed (this is what you call money too). This is not something that we our generation has defined, it has been this way since the beginning of civilization.

This is why social networks become popular so quickly. They were nothing but Dating Sites 2.0 minus the monthly subscription fees that you had to pay to that fag called Match.com. Every Internet service, that wanted to portray an image of seriousness had to fight hard and long to stop people from being themselves, and not to indulge in sexual activities.

Only a few know that the popular Internet photo sharing site, Flickr had to introduce filters to fight porn. But even than a few people manage to such images through on and off.

They have had to decide whether to allow the masses to grow in their Second Life, just the way they live their miserable/wonderful lives or to shave sex from it. Needless to tell that Google decided to do the unnatural i.e to ban porn from Lively in all forms and colors. Mel Guymon, Google’s Head of 3D Operations has been reported as saying that:

We have a couple hundred (developers) from our trusted pool. We did a beta at ASU, and we have some from their very strong computer department. We have a slew of creative agencies involved because there’s a lot of interest from the brand side to put that content in there. I think that comes in part because Google has a pretty strong reputation–they know we’re not going to be putting porn in there–and they’re looking at it and thinking it’s a safe place to enter.

Google has taken this decision to protect their brand and global reputation. However, the question remains that will they be able to keep Lively a sex free society ? Evidence is pointing to the contrary, check out two of the most active rooms on Lively just a day after its launch - they are Sexy & Hot and Europe Sex Friends.

Do you think sex, should be allowed in virtual worlds. Should people be allowed to live and behave in their second lives the way the way they live and behave in this world or should there be all angels in Virtual Worlds.
