Some time ago, we reviewed Creative Citizens, which is a social platform for users working together towards a greener earth. Who knows how much these kind of websites are effective though… there is another new Eco website on the block called Ecovian.
Ecovian is a community website for finding eco-friendly local businesses and sharing other information to help you live a green lifestyle.
But, Ecovian’s goal is to help us find and share information, and what we do with the information is up to us.… hmm isn’t that what Google is for? We’d
appreciate their aims if it were towards a greener earth. Ecovian lists businesses and organizations so that it may guide you in living a greener lifestyle ( which should be their goal actually! ). Just like Creative Citizens, it has a rating system, albeit of the businesses called green scores, and the score is determined by the amount of information they have.
Users can also give reviews on businesses to help others realize their green friendly attitude ( or their green dangerous behaviors ). The website is based in San Francisco, so no use to you if you’re from some other place.
Apart from the listings Ecovian also has groups on different environmental issues and areas, as well as Events listing. It also provides an Ecovian guide to greener things such as organic food, local food, clothing, recycling and the likes. You can also contribute in the Ideas forum to give feedback to improve the site. And as expected, its layout sports a lot of green.
Overall, a good concept, we’ll give them that. But not executed well enough to make a difference to the world. Plus, somebody tell us, what are beauty spas and online stores doing in the category of eco friendly businesses?

Hi Imran - Just one comment, I’ve been using Ecovian in New York City to find green info, so it is not just for San Francisco. I just checked and it seems they have some other cities too.
Hey Emily, thanks for pointing that out. They’ve got a group for New York City, but on the main page it seems the main focus is on San Francisco. ( not to forget the logo says that.)
