foof1 Foof to poof away the ads Adblock Plus + Content + Semantic Matching = foof

This is the equation Foof believes in and basis its functionality around with the idea springing up from suggestions over various forums. The developers started off with trying to develop something else when they realized that they could integrate their newly found ad replacement feature with Adblock. All it does is use the TextWise‘s semantic matching engine with different content sources that matches the content on the ad boxes.

Whatever Foof replaces within the ad box matches its contents except for pictures. All that you have tofoof snap1 thumb Foof to poof away the ads do is install the plugin and once done with that, let Foof do its work. All the ad boxes that have  the so unpleasant text all over are replaced by something that is more pleasant and easy on the eyes. What ever replacement it does is relevant to the content of your web sites; you even get to choose the medium from which Foof display the content to you, be it videos, news, blogs and wiki.

windowslivelogo thumb Windows Live services going dead Microsoft has made a lot of changes in their web services in the recent years. They have done so either by restoring or renaming them. As far as restoring is concerned, its somehow fine but renaming the services is a pathetic thing to do. I mean if you’re marketing such a service which is not up to the mark then what you should do is concentrate on improving the service instead of just renaming it. You should have something good to promote and if its not good then it’ll result in the failure just like it happened with the Microsoft web services. A number of Microsoft services have come to an end which includes Windows Live for TV, Windows Live Expo, Live Search Books and Live Search Academic. This certainly shows which direction they are heading towards.

Windows Live for TV was supposed to be a plugin for Windows Live Spaces/Messenger. A plugin which could have incorporated some enhanced features like chat and voice conversations, PC to PC calls and remote access to Windows Live Spaces all through your TV. If they could have achieved their targets, it would be such a big thing but unluckily they never got out from beta stage. The service which started in January last year is said to go down on June 24, 2008.

zoomiilogo thumb Zoomii – A virtual bookshelf If you have to search a book in hundreds of shelves and you’re running short of time, you would really get frustrated. Worry not because Zoomii is here to help you out. It is a virtual bookstore browsing service.

The site which was made public a week ago is built on Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Simple Storage Services (S3). Using Zoomii is some what like using Google Maps in terms of navigation as it allows you to zoom in and out of bookshelves and also move anywhere by grabbing your cursor. The bookshelves are decorated so beautifully that it makes you feel like you’re sorting it out from a real bookshelf. The only thing unusual in the shelf is that the book cover is facing forward which I think is cool. Books are categorised by authors. You can also see book sizes and even compare them with each other.
