Multiply; a social network that lets you share all kinds of digital media, in one place: a personal web-page of yours. The site that lets you discuss your stuff with everyone within your social-network and gives alerts whenever there is something new; has initiated a new paid-account service that targets media storage. This feature is said to cost $19.95 a year.
The service is called the ‘digital scrapbook’ will enable users to store videos up to a length of 20 minutes along with storing high-resolution pictures and more importantly, something that brings a smile to my face, surfing the site without ads!
Another additional feature it offers is a tool that automatically uploads images and clips to your private locker, from where you can choose what content you wish to share with your friends. This is done by giving you options like, Everyone, Network (protected) and individual (private).
With the site focusing on adults, unlike most social-sites with the present age average hovering around the 20 – 30 years age bracket, the purpose for this has been highlighted in a statement by Vice President Michael Gersh (to CNET):
We’ve never tried to be the hip, cool nightclub.
And he added further:
It’s much more organized and meaningful than some explosive mega-site!
With the site set to tip in 10 million users by July, it still has a gargantuan task at competing Facebook and MySpace. But executives have pinned it down saying that the site is specifically designed to connect family and close friends no strangers whatsoever. The current members post more that 2 million images, 19,000 videos and 55,000 blog entries on a daily basis.
