Jaxtr, that started off as a widget provider that let you make calls to your friends from social networks is now broadening its horizons to allow making calls to any one across the globe. The service is planned to cover around 220 countries with VoIP using local numbers.
The function is to generate a local phone number, this is done by entering the number you want to call anywhere in Jaxtr and it gives you a local number that you can save in your address book. This is useful because any call you mad using that generated local number is charged at local rates and your billing is done by using your Jax credits (1 Jax = 1 minute duration for most locations, costing $10 for 1,000 Jax). This is quite a big change as previously you could only call members (around 10 million) and that there was a fixed limit of 100 Jax, after which you had to wait for the next month to get another 100 Jax.
With its major competition being with Jajah Direct and likes, Jaxtr takes the cake away with its convenience of use and it is 25% cheaper than what calling cards charge.
However additional news that has leaked up that Jaxtr has raised $10 million in financing from investment bank’s venture capital outfit. This is in addition to their previous $ 10 million funding from various Venture Capital firms in September last. The funding is said to be used for investment in customer service, servers to handle call volume and hiring up technical staff.
