CollegeNET – An education based social network

Shoaib Hashmi

CollegeNET Logo You might have come across several social networks but CollegeNET is different from all of them. It is an education based social network that returns precise and much concrete results rather than a list of friends or a wall containing posts. It attract students by giving them incentives (financial aid) in the form of scholarship. All students have to do is to participate actively in the social network (which is not a tough job).

Students here, are encouraged to interact and network with each other using different online forums. Variety of topics are discussed in the forums including politics, religion, entertainment, etc. Currently the most discussed topic seems to be the TV series “One Tree Hill”. Discussion doesn’t have to be formal, it is casual just like in any other online forum/social network.

Students can vote a topic or a video. Student who gets the highest votes at the end of the month, wins the scholarship. For the month of June, $15,000 will be given in scholarships to the top 5 students. The award may contain an amount of $5000, $4000, $3000, $2000 or $1000 apiece. The scholarship money is given by the site’s advertisers and scholarship sponsors.

If you’re seeking a scholarship, you can join the social network but the condition of joining is that the student must either have rolled in to a college/university or have plans to join within an year’s time. On the other side, voters can be anyone from general public as long as they register to CollegeNET.

CollegeNET has provided an opportunity for students to receive alternative scholarships.
