SproutCore provides an open source framework to build chunky client apps with JavaScript; ensuring minimum usage of code lines. It facilitates its users to create giant apps with a higher server independency, enabling them to create and modify data usually without servers (except when an application really need one). This ensures continuous development.
Being a JavaScript application, SproutCore allows faster and easier apps making. It actually splits the load of server developer and variety of functions such as in-memory database, bindings, controllers and Visual widgets making it more different and innovative.
SproutCore is a totally new way of building applications on the web. Instead of following the typical web-driven model where most interesting things happen in the server, SproutCore applications split the load.
It can often run on its own. This frees the server developer to focus on the things the server can do very well such as saving, restoring and aggregating data and performing expensive operations.
Apple has been using SproutCore for building some MobileMe apps therefore the photo demo of SproutCore has much resemblance with the iPhoto. Users can save their pictures into folders in the library and can subscribe to user’s photo folders. The photos can be zoomed in and out with the help of a magnifying slider.
SproutCore offers a free solid platform for building thick desktop apps reducing the tension of managing hectic server operations and downloading plug-ins. But still there are a lot of apps focusing on the same concept. Its photo demo is already lacking some remarkable features like rotating, powerful editing options, creating calendars and photo books, enabling pertinent searches. Sites like fotagraft can give it a rough and tough competition.

If they are really using SproutCore then MobileMe most likely is going to suck!
You can probably say bye bye to use any of the new ‘web apps’ on your iPhone too since that JS framework is so big and a memory hog!
I remember using the gallery stuff of .Mac on Windows XP and oh man that was so terrible even on a fast network…
I remember looking at the source of that JS framework and oh man it’s a lot of code to achieve that !
If they really wanted something light they should have used moo.fx : http://moofx.mad4milk.net/
