Google Reader team has quietly (not so any longer) launched Google Reader for Wii to let users read and manage feeds right from within their Wii browser. They have also added support for the Wiimote:
- up/down: scroll up/down
- right/left: next/previous item
- 1 button: show subscriptions
- 2 button: show links
Subscription shortcuts include:
- up/down: previous/next subscription
- right: select current subscription
- left: close
- -/+: collapse/expand folder
The Google Reader team has also recently integrated Google Reader with Gmail allowing users to share items they find interesting with friends who dont use feed readers. That of course could be improved even further by allowing users to subscribe to feeds via Gmail, packaging the entire Reader functionality in Gmail as well.
Nevertheless the Wii integration will help Google Reader gain some more users, since Wii has turned out to be a very successful gaming console. You could check out the Wii interface by pointing your browser to google.com/reader/wii. Also see the demo video below.
