Business 2.0 Doesn’t Do Backups, Lost Entire June Edition

Bilal Hameed

Business 2.0, a technology focused magazine published by Time is in a really funny situation. The magazine is famous for preaching its readers to take regular backups. In a 2003 article the magazine compared data backups to floss, everyone knows its important but no one bothers. Well this time the magazine forgot to floss.

On the night of April 23rd, the magazines editorial servers crashed, and the magazine lost all data for its June issue. Since they never needed it before, they didn’t looked at the backup servers, which were dysfunctional, or obsolete, or both. However the magazine has managed to recover its articles because they sent them to their lawyers to get legal clearance. But the layouts were totally wiped out and had to be done from scratch. The magazine however, expects to print the June edition in time. Better practice what you preach dear.
