AOL has launched a a new homepage yesterday, in an effort to create a home grown version of all the properties that Yahoo, Google or Microsoft might have.
As others have suggested the homepage bears striking similarities with the homepage of Yahoo, which was re-designed last year. The AOL homepage matches Yahoo’s version from the placement of the searchbox, to the listing of AOL properties on the left, to the color theme. Great care has been taken in copying even the minutest details.
AOL is on this copy paste spree for a while now, first they got inspired by Digg and ripped the basic concepts underlying Digg to create Netscape, then they launched an AJAX based email to compete with Gmail and Yahoo’s improved email, and now they are at it again. It is yet to be seen what property they will attack next.
