Google has renamed Froogle to Google Product Search. Froogle was launched back in 2002 and was a name merger of Frugal + Google. The name change is a result of awareness in Google that brands and names actually count for something. According to Marissa Mayer, VP, Search & User Experience at Google
We were a really young company, and I don’t think we really understood the burden of a new brand, I also think it was very hard to build awareness. Our product offering was very robust, but it will fare better with a Google Product Search name.
Alongwith the name has come some user interface changes as well, like the refine product search options have been moved to the bottom. Previously they were at the top of search results page. This has been done because these features were used quiet less and hence it makes sense to some what remove the distractions from most of the users. However the option to filter search results by those merchants who accept Google Checkout still remains at the top.
Danny Sullivan at SearchEngineLand has an excellent write up on the new enhancements.
