It has now almost become a norm in the blogging community to unite and take a firm stand on social and moral issues. The backlash on Alexa/Statsaholic issue has began.

Andy Beal at Marketing Pilgrim is questioning whether blogosphere can unite on this issue to force Amazon to withdraw the Alexaholic Lawsuit? He notes

I’m betting this will be at the top of TechMeme within hours and Amazon could face a reputation crisis shortly thereafter. Reaching out to help developers with one hand, while you smack them in the head with the other, is the kind of thing that will cause a backlash in a hurry.

Techfold:

HOW ABOUT MONDAY, APRIL 23rd FOR AN API ECS BOYCOTT? Post your thoughts in the comments. By “boycott I mean if you use ECS to link to Amazon for affiliate sales, shut ‘er down and hit amazon in the wallet.

Mashable has put up a petition asking developers and users to boycott Amazon

We suggest that Amazon/Alexa drops this lawsuit. Those that sign this petition may voluntarily uninstall the Alexa toolbar, which relies on data provided freely by users. This is another irony: Alexa is claiming that the data is proprietary, despite the fact that it relies on the community to supply that data. Developers are also welcome to boycott Amazon’s web services.

I however would like to see bloggers imposing a self declared ban to not report any news pertaining to Amazon or ones in which Amazon is a party.

Comments and suggestions welcomed.
