Salesforce Buys Koral, Launches Content Exchange

Salesforce has released a new content management platform, called Apex Content which allows customers to build applications around unstructured “documents” like office documents, HTML, audio/video, email files and integrate those applications into other Salesforce applications.

The product release is a result of acquisition of Koral Technologies, and allows customers to upload, download and share documents among project “workspaces”. Users could also tag, rate, comment, subscribe to document RSS, and get automated file recommendations based on the meta data of the documents. Versioning support is also built right into the application. The product is also integrated with Salesforce’s CRM application, allowing users to attach documents to CRM records.

Competitors to the service include Microsoft´s Sharepoint, ECM’s Documentum, Hummingbird, IBM, FileNet, Corel Lightning, and Oracle (with the acquisiton of Stellant for $440 million). There are no details available on pricing.
