After a month of hard work traffic has finally started to pour in. This is good news not only for us, but also for the startups. The sole purpose of this effort was and still is to help out startups in as many ways as I possibly can. The reviews that we do are certainly not the only way in which we are helping out the startups, in case you haven’t notice I embark on providing free consultancy and advice to who so ever wants to seek it.
And now I will be offering free ads on Startup Meme starting from 1st April 2007. This isn’t something that I thought over night, but was in my plans right from the very beginning, was just waiting for a while to disclose it. I have allocated 10 125×125 pixel sized Ad units in the sidebar. Every month these Ad places would be allocated to 10 aspiring new startups.
Criteria:
The criteria for inclusion is easy. You must be:
- A Web based startup that has already launched to the general public.
- Must be freely accessible or must have a free version.
- Be self or angel funded (i.e haven’t raised a VC round)
Application Procedure:
The procedure to apply is even simpler. Just make a blog post on your own blog detailing about:
- What you are and what you do ?
- Who is the founding team ?
- Where are you based?
- The post should also include a 125×125 pixel sized Logo of the company, that you intend to be placed on the Ad units.
- A link back to Startup Meme.
After you have made the post, send me an email at ’startupmeme [at] googlemail [dot] com’ with the link to the post on your blog. The subject of the post should just contain { [Free Advertisement] ‘Your Company Name’ }.
Selection Procedure:
I will look into the startup and will try to promote the ones that either solves a really pressing need, have a really intuitive and usable User Interface, or somehow are just terrific. The reasons for selection would be announced in a roundup post along with a brief description of the service.
The application procedure is not something that I have invented, Techmeme already uses the same technique, that is displays the description of their sponsors by fetching information from their blog post. We however will not be fetching the entire descriptive post, but instead will be hot linking to the company logo in the post. Your Ad in the sidebar will be linking to the main page of the service.
In case I got an over whelming response I would try to either increase the Ad places (I am not sure about it, 10 Ads are already too much) or decrease the time span from 1 month to half a month or so.
I hope I haven’t made it any complex, but in case you have any suggestions or comments, feel free to get in touch. It will be my honor to serve you guys and keep up the good work.
Update: Due to dismal response from Startups the offer has been discontinued. If you still want to talk about it, do get in touch
