Yahoo Groups, the most popular online email group service yesterday announced some major improvements. Amongst them the notable ones are:
- The groups will no longer be supporting iFrames.
- Better spam protection for group owner email addresses (groupname-owner@yahoogroups.com)
The team integrated Yahoo Answers with groups some time back and announced some improvements for the answers module as well. The integration allows for yahoo groups to subscribe to feeds for questions posed on Yahoo Answers. The changes made to the module are:
- Quality Filtering: Low rated answers would not be included in the feed that the group is getting from Yahoo Answers.
- Keyword Filtering: Moderators can now filter the feed with the help of keywords. So a group related to education can only set to recieve education related questions.
- Improved Mapping: The default categories of groups are now better mapped onto the default categories of Yahoo Answers.
The changes made are really refreshing and will improve the over all user experience. It will also provide with a new avenue for quality responses to the questions asked on Yahoo Answers. Furthermore yahoo groups has also been integrated with Flickr which enables users of yahoo groups to directly share their photos on flickr. So the yahoo groups team is clearly moving on the right path of integration, which would provide a more usable and integrated experience to its users.
