ViaVol, launched a social bookmarking/social shopping service. It enables users to post their specific shopping needs and be notified when a deal matching their needs is offered.
ViaVol allows you to download ViaVol buttons (at the moment just supports IE 6.0+). Utilizing these browser based buttons you can post web page of a product you are interested in buying. Users can also add tags, description images and price range for the product. ViaVol will then notify the users of any deals matching their shopping criteria.
Similarly shop owners and retailers can post special bargains and deals. Users can recommend and rate deals as well. ViaVol also allows users to create web channels to broadcast video, music and images of their favorite web content.
All in all ViaVol is a nice social shopping service which could save potential buyers hours of online surveying and comparisons, but it already has many competitors: ThisNext, Crowdstorm, and ShopWiki.
