We had reviewed 12seconds last month. With the sole purpose of facilitating and entertaining its users, the newly incubated short video messaging service allows its users to record and share short video messages. The service has launched its public alpha version today, and it is now available for everyone. We have got 100 invites exclusively for StartupMeme readers. (See the bottom of the post to grab one).
Majority of people think Seesmic and Qik as a video equivalent of twitter, but 12seconds is incomparable. The character limitations set by twitter (14 characters) excellently describes 12seconds only because the number of uploaded videos on other services are several minutes long and therefore do not fall in the category of True Twitter Video.
Therefore, better known as the real Twitter video, it allows users to record videos either with their cell phone or webcam . You can share your video clips directly from your phone by sending them to a personalized address via email or MMS. Users can record their happy moments, can discuss their fun-loving trip or even can share morning tea with their friends in enchanting 12seconds.
You can also have regular video updates from your friends and can also import contacts from your very own Twitter. By linking your Twitter account with your 12seconds account, a direct tweet with a video link will be sent to all your friends whenever you will upload any new stuff. (though Twitter itself needs a lot of service improvement because of its downtime)
Above all, the public alpha version allows you to request a 12second API by dropping an email to the company. This will be a great boon to all the restless developers as they can now make their own product.
The Santa Cruz, Calif Service is founded by Sol Lipman and David Beach(Yahoo’s employee). We had a chance to chat with their Marketing and PR Manger, (quiet cooperative and humble person, I must say) and he said that anything longer than 12seconds would be quiet boring. That’s why they came with an idea of making video messaging simple and generic to avoid boredom and messiness. He also added that the company has some key advantages over its main competitors because of its Simplicity, Elegance, Focus, Extensibility and Ease of Use. I think these keywords have well defined the service and there is no need of writing more words.
Although the service is new, it seems quiet promising and worthy to use. Its simplicity and clear UI makes it all more attractive and flexible.
